How To Become a Christian

Do you have an eternal relationship with God that is making your life better right now?

God created humans to be in a relationship with him; we were made like him in many respects. Genesis 1:27 says “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” God’s relationship with us was to be intimate and fulfilling and eternal.

Unfortunately, the first man and woman disobeyed God (sinned) and everything changed … for them and for us. [See Genesis 3] All of us are sinners and our sin separates us from the holy God. Romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Unless something could be done about our sin, we would spend eternity separated from God, in punishment. The Son of God (Jesus) did something! Romans 5:6, 8 “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. … God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus took the punishment for our sin by living sinlessly and dying in our place on the cross. On the third day, the Father raised Jesus from the dead, showing that death and sin are defeated.

Admitting that we are sinners and in need of God’s salvation, opens the door for a radical, eternal change. What must we do? Romans 10:9-10, 13 says “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. … For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
