Phil Alford
Phil Alford is a native Texan who has been leading
worship since he was a senior in high school. Phil
was born in Littlefield, Texas and accepted Jesus as
Savior at age ten while attending First Baptist
Church of Plainview. During his high school years
his family moved to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch near
Amarillo where his parents served as house parents
to as many as 36 boys. Active in music, drama, and
athletics, Phil had the opportunity to lead music
for the chapel services his senior year, which led
him to surrender to the ministry through music.
Following graduation as valedictorian, Phil attended
Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, where he
graduated magna cum laude. While there he was also
blessed to meet, fall in love with, and marry
Rhonda, who has added to his ministry through
playing the piano and being his partner in life.
Phil and Rhonda have three children; Andrew, a
graduate of Oklahoma State University, Alicia, a
graduate of Wayland Baptist University who is
teaching private voice in Forney schools, and
Abigail, who is a sophomore at Hardin Simmons
University.
Phil has served as music minister at Bethel Baptist
Church, Plainview; First Baptist Church of Post;
First Baptist Church of Forney; First Baptist Church
of Andrews; and interims as First Baptist, Mabank,
and First Baptist, Celina. He has been at First
Baptist Church of Heath since October of 2001, first
as interim, then part-time, then full-time since
April, 2004. He is an active member and frequent
soloist with the Singing Men of Texas and enjoys
singing in southern gospel quartets.
The scripture that Phil has claimed for his ministry
is Psalm 40:3 – “And He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear,
and will trust in the Lord.” It is his hope that as
he ministers through praise and worship that people
will be led to the Lord Jesus Christ.
The music ministry at First Baptist Church of Heath
is one that blends the best of current praise and
worship songs with the traditional hymns and gospel
songs of our heritage. There are places of service
in the choir and praise team for those who feel led
to participate, and everyone in the congregation is
encouraged to join in weekly worship.
